Agribotix recently switched to BIGTIFF as a file format instead of regular TIFFs. The images will still be of the format "XXXX.tif", BIGTIFFs just have the data written in a slightly different way. What BigTIFFs allow us to do is create files that are larger than 4 GiB, which is great for multispectral cameras, higher resolution data, and larger fields. If you are unfamiliar with geospatial imagery, then you won't notice a difference until you try to open an image, at which point most image processing software will be unable to open the images.
If you are attempting to open the image in a non-geospatial application, like Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Windows Gallery, etc., then you will continue to see failures. What we suggest doing is downloading the software QGIS. You'll then be able to open the file like normal.
If you wish to try and export your data to a regular tif, which is usually possible if it's smaller than 2.0 GiB, then you can follow these steps:
- After you've opened tif, you'll see the image appear on the left hand side under the "Layers Panel", you'll then want to right click on the image name and click "Save As"
- A window will appear, be sure to select "Rendered Image" as "Output mode" and use the "Browse" button to select where the image will be output to:
You can also use this to select a different geospatial CRS if you want. You may also find it useful to check the "Create Options" box and change the profile from "Default" to a compression level of your choosing. - Click "OK" when you're done and the data will be created on your machine and added to QGIS. If it can't use regular Tif as a format it will warn you before continuing.
