Currently, we do not have a clean set of deliverable products for thermal imagery as the demand for support has been low. However, if you wish to help us drive development and help us build out products we can always attempt to stitch your imagery from a thermal camera. The requirements for stitching thermal imagery are as follows for flying:
- You should have very high overlap: 90% side and frontal overlap
- The images must have a resolution of at least 640x480
- There should be no motion blur from the images. Readout times for thermal cameras tend to be longer and so the speed of the UAV may need to be adjusted to make sure the images are sharp. Try doing a couple of passes and checking the imagery at various speeds before uploading.
When uploading your images, we advise giving us the RJPG (radiometric JPG) as this is an image with the initial radiometric data embedded within each image. We can then read the data to provide very accurate results. The second format we advise is the gray scale TIFF images, as these provide absolute temperature variations rather than relative to the current scene. We advise against uploading the color JPG images.
Since we don't have support for the data at the time of writing this article, there may be significant delays in processing your thermal imagery and providing you a decent analysis of your data that you might expect from other cameras.
